Calling Home, Ian’s solo record, “Calling Home,” features some Irish songs he remembered growing up in Lisburn, just outside of Belfast. Most people from Ireland would be familiar with the song “Tell Me Ma,” Ian says, because “little Irish girls sing it while skipping rope.” Another popular Celtic song on the CD, “The Star of the County Down,” recalls memories of being smitten with Ireland: “I've traveled a bit, but never was hit Since my roving career began But fair and square I surrendered there . . . To the star of the County Down.” The cd’s title also reminisces about Ireland. “It’s dubbed ‘Calling Home,’ because that’s what the cell phone reads when I call family back in Ireland,” says Ian. Fittingly, the cd features familiar Celtic instruments, including guitars, mandolin, banjo, bodhran, accordion, uilleann pipes and whistle.
